Over the River and Thru the Woods…

It has been a very hot and humid summer here in Maryland. I am lucky to live in a very lush area of Maryland, complete with rolling hills, forest and rivers. Lots of little streams and rivers that beckon to come and get out of the heat. Over the years I have come to love painting in these beautiful calming areas. Deep cool forest with a little running brook are all I need.

Here is the latest summer work..

“Hot Summer Day in Fredericksburg, VA”. oil on linen panel (9×12)
“Codorus Trees”. oil on linen board (11×14)
“View of the River through the trees”. oil on linen board (11×14)
"Spring Pool" by Robert Frost

These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.

The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods –
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday
