Figurative work

I am primarily a landscape painter but I do love figurative work. Lately I have revisited the art of portraiture. I am struggling to get back into the swing of life studies and hope to be able to join a group for regular practice which is essential to progress. Group sessions are nice mainly because you do not have to pay so much for the model and also it is a chance to do a little socialization and to see others work which I have always enjoyed. Over the years I have monitered many different groups and hosted model sessions in my home.

I also am very interested in painting the people that I love and are important to me. Family, friends, colleagues, are all great subjects because sometimes painting the portrait of someone who you have a relationship with, results in a very meaningful interpretation. Here are a few of my latest attempts.

‘Ellen” charcoal and white highlight. This sweet little girl is the my daughter’s husband’s sister’s child. (that’s a mouthful)  I really enjoyed her serious expression and casual attire

These two darling children are brother and sister. ”Iris” is in pencil. with white highlights  ”Sean” is in charcoal with white highlights.

“Sean”

These two lovely young girls are twins, “Lexi” and “Brey” Dear friends of our family. Both were done in pencil and white conte highlight on toned paper. I started a painting of them years ago. the painting is still looming around but I did manage to capture them as young children. They are now adults.

“Lovely LoLo” My niece

Logan (Lolo) and Ellie Rae are also sisters. I loved drawing them in their unique hats.

“Clara” my grandaughter I think I captured her spritely personality
“Cassidy”. my beautiful grandaughter. and clara’s sister
“Lil Jo”. My grandaughter Rowan Jo as an infant
“Gavin”. My little Grandson and his two sisters are Elora and Rowan Jo
Study for the Rock Thrower. My little grandaughter Rowan Jo
“The Rock Thrower” oil on linen 24×18

So these are all works of young children. I didn’t start out to do that theme but glad I did. My next project is to actually work from an adult model. Who wants to model?
